January 10 2009, Sunday, is the start of the five-month election period which will end on June 9. The beginning of election also means following new rules for preparing for 2010 elections.
During election period there will be an implementation of nationwide gun ban. This gun ban is applicable to everyone except government security forces. We are prohibited from carrying guns in public places like parks and malls and even private and public vehicles.
The commencement of election period is more important than the actual election date or the counting of votes. According to Comelec director Atty. Ferdinand Rafanan if they are not serious in implementing rules, people will not believe them and probably not follow the resolutions given. That is why they see to it that they are implementing the law.
The start of this election period will definitely be a big part of Philippine history and the following events that will occur during the 120-day election period.
